OIP-7 Tiger Woods withdraws from own Hero World Challenge due to ongoing injury

Tournament host Tiger Woods will not compete in the Hero World Challenge, scheduled for December 4–7 in Albany, Bahamas, according to the final player field released Wednesday.

When the initial field was announced three weeks ago, there was hope that Woods would be added later as one of three exemption spots. However, he has since undergone lumbar disc replacement surgery, and his return date remains unknown.

The 15-time major champion has not competed since missing the cut at the British Open in July 2024. Earlier this year, he also underwent surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

Organizers of the Hero World Challenge, a charity event benefiting Woods’ foundation, confirmed the final three players rounding out the 20-player field will be Jordan Spieth, Billy Horschel, and Akshay Bhatia.

Among the previously confirmed entrants are twice defending champion Scottie Scheffler and 2016 winner Hideki Matsuyama of Japan.
