Kercem Ajax cruise past Ghajnsielem in five-goal show

Kercem Ajax produced a dominant second-half display to dismantle Ghajnsielem 5–0 and move up to second place in the GFA BOV Gozo Football League standings.

After a goalless first half, Ajax broke the deadlock on 50 minutes through Isaias Moura Vera Cruz De Souza, who finished calmly after a quick counterattack. The lead was doubled in the 64th minute when Natal Cidcley Severiano (Nenem) converted from close range.

Ghajnsielem’s hopes of a comeback faded six minutes later when Gabriel Farrugia was shown a straight red card. Kercem made the most of their advantage, adding a third through Mateus Fernandes De Souza Lima on 77 minutes.

A penalty from Mario Henrique Fernandes Cardoso made it 4–0 on 82 minutes before Isaias Moura Vera Cruz De Souza struck again deep into stoppage time to seal a resounding 5–0 victory.

Kercem’s win sees them leapfrog Ghajnsielem into second place with 11 points, just two behind leaders Xewkija Tigers.

Qala Saints battle back to draw against Victoria Wanderers

In the second match of the day, Qala Saints fought back from two goals down to secure a hard-earned 2–2 draw against SK Victoria Wanderers in an eventful encounter at the Gozo Stadium.

The Wanderers struck first through Sam Harland, who found the net in the 33rd minute and doubled the advantage shortly after the restart on 49 minutes.

Qala’s task became harder when Junior Adenilson Ferreira Dos Santos (Sergipe) was sent off just after the hour mark. However, despite being down to ten men, Qala responded with determination — Lucas Baretto Da Silva pulled one back in the 71st minute, before Andre Gabriel Casteo Martins levelled from the penalty spot in the 84th.

Drama continued as Martins was shown a red card a minute later, leaving Qala with nine players, but they held firm to earn a valuable point.
