Ruthless RB Leipzig Smash Six Past Augsburg to Rise to Second

RB Leipzig produced a scintillating display to dismantle Augsburg 6–0 on Saturday, equalling their second-largest Bundesliga victory and tightening their grip as Bayern Munich’s nearest challengers in the title race.
It was a first-half masterclass from Ole Werner’s side, who struck four times before the interval to leave the visitors shell-shocked.
Leipzig opened the scoring just 10 minutes in when Yan Diomande weaved through the Augsburg defence and slotted home a composed finish. The hosts doubled their advantage midway through the first half as Romulo coolly guided Assan Ouedraogo’s pinpoint cross into the net.
While Augsburg showed some attacking intent, their lack of precision in the final third left them vulnerable to Leipzig’s blistering counter-attacks. Diomande turned provider soon after, setting up Antonio Nusa for a simple tap-in, before goalkeeper Finn Dahmen failed to keep out Christoph Baumgartner’s curling strike that made it 4–0 before halftime.
Any hopes of an Augsburg revival quickly faded after the break. Leipzig continued to dominate, and a slick exchange between Baumgartner and Ouedraogo ended with the 19-year-old midfielder firing in from the edge of the box to make it five.
Augsburg’s defensive frailties were once again exposed from a set piece, as Castello Lukeba capitalized on Dahmen’s misjudged attempt to claim a cross, bundling in Leipzig’s sixth of the afternoon.
The emphatic victory served as a statement of intent from Leipzig, who extended their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to seven matches. In contrast, Augsburg’s defensive collapse leaves them with the worst record at the back in Germany’s top flight, raising serious concerns about their fight for survival.
Only two teams have scored more goals than Leipzig this season — a testament to their attacking prowess and growing momentum under Werner’s leadership.
