Bruno Fernandes Reveals He Turned Down Saudi Move to Chase Manchester United Ambitions

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed he rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in order to continue pursuing his dreams with the Red Devils.

Fernandes is set to make his 300th appearance for United in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton at Old Trafford.

Since joining Manchester, Fernandes has experienced a challenging period at the club. Last season, United finished 15th in the Premier League, marking their lowest top-flight finish since 1973/74. They also fell short in the Europa League final, losing to Tottenham and missing out on Champions League qualification.

During the close season, Fernandes was reportedly approached by Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. Despite the tempting offer, he chose to stay at Manchester United, determined to complete his mission with the 20-time English champions, who last won the league title in 2013.

“We always say we have an offer from Saudi because, obviously, wherever I have to go, they have to come,” Fernandes said, referring to his wife Ana and family. “And the first thing she asked was, ‘Have you achieved everything you wanted at the club?’ Because she knows I haven’t.”

Fernandes’ fiery temperament on the pitch has occasionally drawn criticism, but it is also seen as a reflection of his desire to win both the Premier League and Champions League.

“The manager spoke with me,” Fernandes added. “He said I was still part of the project. The club said the same. I always said that if the club didn’t see me as part of the future, I would have considered leaving for what’s best for me and my family. But that wasn’t the case. I felt I was still part of the plan and could help the club achieve our goals.”

Under contract until 2027, with an option for an additional year, Fernandes has no plans to discuss his future until after the World Cup next year.

“I feel good here and I want to achieve my dreams,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot of speculation about agreements for next season, but nothing was discussed with me. My agent also knows how I operate — any talks will happen after the World Cup.”
