The match between Feyenoord and Panathinaikos faced multiple reschedulings due to Storm Benjamin. Originally set for 18:45 CET, the kick-off was first moved to 16:45 CET, then again to 21:00 CET as the storm arrived earlier than expected.

Manager Robin van Persie fielded youngster Aymen Sliti on the left wing, hoping to secure Feyenoord’s first European win of the season following defeats to Braga and Aston Villa in the opening two rounds.

The home side thought they had taken the lead in the tenth minute when Sem Steijn fired past Bartolomiej Dragowski, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Instead, it was Panathinaikos who struck first in the eighteenth minute through Karol Świderski, who patiently reacted to a rebound and slotted the ball into the net.

Feyenoord struggled for rhythm in the first half, missing passes and failing to create clear chances. They did, however, salvage the half with the last touch before the break, as young right-back Givairo Read met Sliti’s cross at the back post to level the score.

The second half saw Feyenoord start strongly. Anis Hadj Moussa gave the home side the lead after a flawless dribble and a precise finish past Dragowski. Despite a briefly awarded then overturned penalty and solid creative work from Luciano Valente, Feyenoord eased off for much of the second half, with Hadj Moussa, Steijn, and Ueda unable to extend the lead further.

In injury time, substitute Cyle Larin sealed the win, tapping in the rebound from his own effort to put the game beyond Panathinaikos. Leo Sauer came close to adding a fourth in the dying moments but failed to beat Dragowski in a one-on-one.

Feyenoord ultimately claimed a convincing first UEFA Europa League win of the season, sending a strong message to their group rivals.
