Mbappé strike helps Real Madrid edge nine-man Getafe late on

Real Madrid continued their strong start to the season with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Getafe, stretching their unbeaten run and moving two points clear at the top of LaLiga.
Having won seven of their opening eight league matches, Los Blancos entered the contest as firm favourites. Yet, despite their dominance in possession and recent scoring form — at least two goals in each of their last seven league outings — they were made to work hard for the victory.
Kylian Mbappé once again looked Madrid’s most dangerous outlet, forcing a save from David Soria before dragging another effort wide from distance. Rodrygo also tested the Getafe goalkeeper from a tight angle, while at the other end, Álex Sancris came close to an upset, volleying narrowly wide.
Seeking more creativity, Xabi Alonso introduced Vinícius Júnior at half-time, but Madrid continued to find Getafe’s low block difficult to break down. Mbappé saw a free-kick curl just past the post, while Getafe briefly threatened through Adrián Liso’s strike that flashed wide.
The match’s turning point arrived with 12 minutes remaining. Substitute Allan Nyom was shown a straight red card for striking Vinícius off the ball, and within seconds Madrid made the advantage count.
It was inevitably Mbappé who broke the deadlock, firing in from close range despite Soria getting a strong hand to the shot. Moments later, Getafe’s evening worsened as Álex received a second yellow card for another foul on Vinícius, reducing the hosts to nine men and ending any hopes of a comeback.
The result marked Madrid’s eighth consecutive win over Getafe and solidified their position at the top of the LaLiga table. Getafe, meanwhile, remain mid-table, five points clear of the relegation zone after nine rounds of play.
