Arsenal FC rounded off their Premier League title-winning campaign with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace FC at Selhurst Park, extending their strong recent record in the fixture to nine wins from the last 10 meetings (D1).

With the title already secured, Arsenal still started brightly and nearly struck inside four minutes when Gabriel Jesus saw his effort come back off the post, before Dean Henderson reacted quickly to deny Noni Madueke on the rebound.

Jesus, who has a hat-trick against Palace to his name, came close again in the first half when he was played through one-on-one, but Henderson produced a strong save before the striker later headed into the side-netting at the far post.

However, the Brazilian forward eventually made the breakthrough, finishing a well-worked move involving compatriot Gabriel Martinelli. Played in behind once more, Jesus fired confidently past Henderson at the near post to give the champions the lead.

Crystal Palace FC offered little going forward before the break, managing just one attempt, though Daniel Muñoz did force a superb diving save from Kepa Arrizabalaga, making his only Premier League appearance of the season.

Both sides made several changes after the interval, and one of them paid immediate dividends for Arsenal as Kai Havertz made an impact. Once again, the Gunners struck from a set piece, with Martinelli delivering a cross to the back post for Havertz to nod the ball back across goal, allowing Madueke to volley home and extend their advantage.

Palace at least showed some fight after and Jorgen Strand Larsen will feel like he should have done better when he fired over from inside the box.

Arsenal fans were still cheering though and were extra jubilant when Mikel Merino was substituted on after months out injured, replacing Max Dowman, who became the youngest-ever starter in PL history.

Another substitute then grabbed the attention when ex-Arsenal academy graduate and more notably former Palace star Eberechi Eze was brought on to a mixed reception from the crowd.

It was Merino though who squandered the best chance to get on the scoresheet when he struck over from close range in the latter stages.

Palace managed to pull a goal back through two substitutes combining, as Yeremy Pino crossed for Jean-Philippe Mateta  to head home his fourth career goal against Arsenal.

Pino himself then struck home to briefly silence the away fans, but it was disallowed with Evann Guessand  interfering in an offside position.

Arsenal FC extended their winning run to five consecutive Premier League matches as Mikel Arteta’s side celebrated lifting the title in front of their travelling supporters. Their 26th league victory of the season also matched the win tally of the famous Invincibles.

It was a fitting end to a dominant campaign for Arsenal, who rounded off their league season in style while already assured of top spot.

For Crystal Palace FC, it marked the end of Oliver Glasner’s final home match in charge, as their five-game unbeaten Premier League run at Selhurst Park (W2, D3) came to an end.

Despite the result, both sides now turn their attention to important European finals next week.
