Chris Cardona appointed new Birkirkara FC president after Valenzia exit

Birkirkara FC have appointed Dr Chris Cardona as the club’s new president following the resignation of Michael Valenzia earlier this week.
The Stripes had been actively seeking to form a new committee after Valenzia stepped down amid increasing calls from supporters for a change in leadership following a disappointing campaign.
Birkirkara endured a difficult season in which they failed to seriously challenge for any major domestic honours, leading to growing unrest among the club’s fan base.
Speaking after his appointment, Dr Cardona expressed his pride and gratitude at being entrusted with the role.
“I am honoured and humbled by the unanimous trust placed in me by the members of Birkirkara Football Club tonight,” Dr Cardona said.
“This mandate belongs to every supporter, every player, every coach, every volunteer and every family that has stood by this club through everything.”
The newly-appointed president confirmed that work is already underway to establish a new committee structure, with Gordon Spiteri and Michael Spiteri set to remain involved within the club’s administration.
“Together with Gordon Spiteri and Michael Spiteri, we will shortly be proposing a full committee structure for the formal approval of the club’s members,” he explained.
“The complete composition will be announced once that process has been properly concluded in the coming days.”
Dr Cardona stressed that the incoming administration is determined to move swiftly in addressing the club’s immediate priorities and laying stronger foundations for the future.
“Our immediate priorities are clear,” he said.
“We will be conducting a full financial and legal review of the club’s affairs from day one. We have institutional partnerships ready to be activated immediately that will generate new commercial revenue for the club.”
He added that preparations for next season are already being treated as urgent matters.
“We are committed to ensuring that all football operations for next season are addressed without delay – player contracts, coaching staff and squad planning are all urgent matters that we will be handling as a priority.”
Dr Cardona also revealed that the club is planning major development initiatives involving its property assets.
“We also have two significant development projects on the table for the club’s property assets, which we intend to progress properly and transparently through the correct legal and commercial processes.
“There is a lot to do, and we are ready to start,” he concluded.
