The two most important events held during the weekend at the Marsa Racetrack were the Southern Region Local Council race final for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2640 metres and the MRTL Championship final for class Bronze trotters on the same distance.

These finals were won by Forban and Crazy Boy respectively.

Twelve trotters took part in the class Premier final which was held on Friday evening.

This final resulted in a keen tussle between four trotters in the last 100 metres.

It was Forban (Cherise Farrugia) that dashed strongly from the outside and sealed its second win in a row and in Malta from Isocrate D’Ela (Jesmar Gafa’).

Gold Dairpet (Marco Refalo) and Itro (Clint Vassallo) followed home in that order. The winner clocked an average time of 1.13” per kilometer.

At the end of this final, Jesmond Aquilina, president of the Southern Region Local Councils, in the presence of Malta Racing Club vice-chairman Tony Demanuele and Malta Equidrome CEO Matthew Brincat, presented the shield and trophies to Cherise Farrugia and Andrew Farrugia driver and owner respectively of the winning horse.

Also present were the representatives of the Santa Venera Local Council winners of the fourth edition of this Southern Region Local Councils’ Race Final.

In the class Bronze final, which was held on Sunday, Crazy Boy (Leon Zammit) dashed strongly from the outside during the last 300 metres and managed to secure its fourth consecutive win by half length from Nyras Tess (Carl Caruana) and Kronos (Redent Magro).

Halex Dark (Jesmar Gafa’) finished in fourth place. For young driver Leon Zammit this was his first win of a final in his career.

Matthew Brincat, CEO of Malta Equidrome, presented the trophy to Leon Zammit, driver and owner of the winning horse.

Yesterday’s card included also a normal class Premier race on a long distance. Ż

French Hudo Du Ruel (Rodney Gatt) took its fourth win in a row and in Malta after leading all the way.
