Como extended their strong away record with a 2-0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, a result that lifted them to fifth place in Serie A.

Cesc Fabregas’ side are now unbeaten in their last eight away matches against teams starting the round in the bottom half (W6, D2), underlining their consistency on the road. The win also helped restore momentum after a difficult spell in which they had gone three league games without a victory (D1, L2), a run that saw them drop out of the UEFA Champions League qualification places.

Como made a bright start and were rewarded early on when Anastasios Douvikas met Lucas Da Cunha’s excellent cross with a powerful 10th-minute header that left Justin Bijlow with no chance.

They came close to doubling their lead midway through the first half, as Nico Paz weaved past two defenders and fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area. The young playmaker then went even closer before the break, heading against the post after beating the goalkeeper.

Despite Genoa leaving leading scorers Lorenzo Colombo and Ruslan Malinovskyi on the bench, they still threatened before half-time. However, Como goalkeeper Jean Butez produced a brilliant save to deny Sebastian Otoa and preserve his side’s clean sheet.

From there, Como managed the game effectively to secure a routine but important away win.

Fabregas and Co. were hit by a setback at half-time when Nico Paz was forced off, replaced by Maxence Caqueret after appearing to pick up an injury. The enforced change disrupted Como’s rhythm, and Genoa came out aggressively after the restart, with Mikael Egill Ellertsson firing a long-range effort just wide inside two minutes of the second half.

The hosts continued to push forward, and shortly after the hour mark, Jean Butez was again called into action, producing a sharp save to deny Morten Frendrup.

However, Como weathered the pressure and struck against the run of play to double their lead. Caqueret, eager to make an impact, delivered a clever flick in the 68th minute that allowed Assane Diao to head home at the near post.

It proved to be a crucial moment, sealing what could be one of Como’s most significant victories of the season given their recent dip in form. The result lifts the European-chasing side above Roma into fifth place in Serie A, now just two points behind fourth-placed Juventus.

For Genoa, it was another frustrating afternoon, with Daniele De Rossi’s side stuck in 14th and seemingly heading towards a third straight bottom-half finish since their return to the top flight.
