Kerċem Ajax crowned Gozo League Champions after victory over Qala Saints
Kerċem Ajax FC were officially crowned champions of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League First Division after defeating Qala Saints FC 2-1 in their final league match of the season at the Gozo Stadium on Saturday.
The victory confirmed an outstanding campaign for Kerċem, who finished top of the standings on 47 points from 18 matches to lift the championship title.
Fast Start for Champions
Kerċem made an ideal start to the match and went ahead after just eight minutes through Michael Camilleri, giving the league leaders early control.
Qala Saints responded well and managed to draw level on 27 minutes when a Dejan Bogdanovic own goal brought them back into the contest.
The two sides went into the interval level at 1-1, with the title celebrations temporarily on hold.
Martins Seals Victory
Kerċem regained the lead early in the second half when Andre Gabriel Castro Martins found the net on 53 minutes to restore their advantage.
From there, the newly-crowned champions managed the game well and held firm defensively to secure all three points and finish the season in style.
Final Standings Confirm Title and Relegation
The win saw Kerċem Ajax end the campaign on 47 points, well clear of second-placed Għajnsielem FC on 33 points. Xewkija Tigers finished third on 31 points, while Qala Saints ended fourth with 26 points.
At the other end of the table, Nadur Youngsters finished bottom on 11 points and were relegated.
