It was a memorable and highly successful week for the Maltese contingent at the Blackball Nations Cup 2026 in Gibraltar, as the national teams secured three gold medals across different categories, an achievement that will remain a landmark moment in the history of the sport locally.

The first success came in the seniors’ individual competition, where Chris Tabone wrote another chapter in the sport’s history by becoming the first Maltese player to win this category. In the final, Tabone displayed strong determination and excellent control to defeat Scotland’s Graham Dunbar with a 7–5 scoreline.

The second gold medal was secured by the men’s national team led by Clevion Micallef. The Maltese side, composed of Clayton Castaldi, Wayne Pace, Johan Attard, Mevrick Zammit, Miguel Amato, Lydan Debono and Gary Carr, enjoyed a flawless campaign, winning the competition without a single defeat. Their consistency and maturity were evident throughout the week, with the final confirming their superiority as Malta overcame their opponents to add a second gold medal to their tally.

Meanwhile, the third success came from the Under-23 team under the guidance of coach Duncan Edwards. The squad, made up of Nick Muscat, Nordai Desira, Casdy Vella, Steven Muscat, Chaylon Castaldi and Matthias Debono, demonstrated the promising future of Maltese blackball. In the final, they defeated Scotland 13–8, with a standout performance from Casdy Vella.
