Liverpool Eye Gordon and Bowen After Ekitike Injury Blow

Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are expected to change significantly following Hugo Ekitike’s long-term injury.
The French forward suffered an Achilles injury against Paris Saint-Germain and is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, forcing the club to reassess their attacking options for next season.
The development comes at a crucial time for Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah also expected to leave the club at the end of the campaign.
Uncertainty surrounding the squad is further increased by doubts over Champions League qualification and the future of manager Arne Slot, who is not yet guaranteed to stay in charge.
Ekitike’s injury, combined with Salah’s potential departure, would leave Liverpool short of both experience and attacking firepower in the final third.
Early reports suggest the striker could be out until 2027.
A new attacking signing was already part of Liverpool’s summer plans, but strengthening the frontline is now seen as an absolute priority.
The situation has also created two clear pathways in the transfer market. One option is to move for a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah, while the other is to recruit a more flexible forward capable of playing across multiple attacking positions.
Juventus winger Francisco Conceição is among the names being considered from outside the Premier League, while RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is also being closely monitored.
However, given the need for immediate impact and reduced risk, Liverpool are also strongly leaning towards proven Premier League options.
Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon is one of the players on their shortlist and has been on the club’s radar for some time. With interest also growing from rivals including Arsenal and Bayern Munich, Liverpool may feel pressure to make a move.
Jarrod Bowen is another long-term admired target at Anfield. Although previously viewed as difficult to secure and still closely tied to West Ham United, he remains an option under consideration.
Liverpool’s stature could allow them to test West Ham’s resolve, and the club may explore what it would take to negotiate a deal.
Sources suggest Liverpool’s recruitment team are now working to accelerate their plans, with the aim of identifying preferred targets internally by May so they are fully prepared for the opening of the transfer window.
