Borussia Dortmund struck twice in stoppage time to secure a dramatic 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, bringing an end to Stuttgart’s seven-match unbeaten run in head-to-head meetings across all competitions against Die Schwarzgelben.

Hosting the side immediately above them in the Bundesliga standings, Die Schwaben began the match brightly and showed early attacking intent. Chris Führich, returning after his first Germany appearance since November 2024, looked particularly lively, although his long-range attempt was comfortably handled by Gregor Kobel.

Sebastian Hoeneß’s team continued to press forward, with Marcel Sabitzer making a crucial intervention by throwing himself in front of a Führich effort after Kobel had already denied Angelo Stiller.

Stuttgart maintained their dominance but were unable to find the breakthrough. Deniz Undav sent an effort over the bar following a long throw from Ramon Hendriks, while Serhou Guirassy got in the way of a powerful Führich strike to prevent it from troubling goal.

Führich later had another opportunity after Undav drew a foul from Nico Schlotterbeck near the edge of the box, but his resulting free-kick sailed harmlessly over the crossbar. He also tested Kobel with a half-volley that flew just over, while Carney Chukwuemeka sent a rare Dortmund attempt wide just before the interval.

The early stages of the second half appeared more promising for Niko Kovač’s side, with Lorenz Assignon forcing a save from Gregor Kobel after a well-executed corner from the hosts.

Karim Adeyemi and Fábio Silva were introduced for Dortmund shortly after the hour mark, while Jamie Leweling also entered the fray as both sides searched for a breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter.

There was a brief moment of concern for Ramy Bensebaini, though he safely headed the ball back to Kobel, as both teams continued to struggle in breaking down the opposition despite further attacking changes.

Angelo Stiller and Leweling each curled efforts narrowly off target, with the highest-scoring fixture in Bundesliga history seemingly heading for a goalless draw.

However, Adeyemi broke the deadlock in the 94th minute, reacting superbly to control Jeff Chabot’s attempted clearance before finishing clinically.

Moments later, Julian Brandt completed a swift counter-attack, firing into the roof of Alexander Nübel’s net to seal a dramatic victory. The result marked Dortmund’s fourth consecutive win, moving them 11 points clear of Stuttgart and nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Die Schwaben drop below RB Leipzig on goal difference after suffering their first Bundesliga defeat in seven matches.
