Strasbourg strengthen European push with win over struggling Nice

RC Strasbourg Alsace are now unbeaten in 10 matches across all competitions (W5, D5), following a convincing 3-1 victory over relegation-threatened OGC Nice.
Still pushing for consecutive European campaigns for only the second time in the club’s history, Martial Godo came close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute, unleashing a powerful long-range effort that sailed just inches over the crossbar.
Strasbourg continued to press in search of a breakthrough, and shortly after the 15-minute mark, Julio Enciso also went close with a header that narrowly missed the target.
Gary O’Neil’s side maintained their relentless attacking pressure and should have taken the lead in the 21st minute.
However, Martial Godo—now leading Strasbourg’s attack following the season-ending knee injury to Ligue 1’s top scorer Joaquín Panichelli—failed to find the bottom corner from a promising position.
The forward endured further frustration just three minutes later when his header beat Yehvann Diouf but struck the crossbar.
Despite those missed opportunities, Godo finally got his reward in the 28th minute, as poor defending allowed him to meet the ball unmarked and guide a header past Diouf.
The Ivorian’s improved confidence appeared to lift his teammates, as Julio Enciso doubled Strasbourg’s lead eight minutes later with an impressive finish.
Played through by a defence-splitting pass from Samir El Mourabet, the Paraguayan took full advantage, leaving his marker on the ground before rounding Yehvann Diouf and calmly slotting the ball into an empty net.
A difficult first half for the visitors was compounded in the 42nd minute when Samir El Mourabet extended Strasbourg’s lead to 3-0 with a superb strike that flew into the top corner.
At half-time, Claude Puel responded by making three substitutions in an effort to turn the game around.
Despite the adjustments, Nice’s struggles continued, and Strasbourg should have added a fourth just four minutes into the second half, but Julio Enciso sent his header wide from close range.
It took until the 63rd minute for Mike Penders to be called into action, as Nice registered their first shot on target when Elye Wahi tested the Chelsea loanee with a low effort that was comfortably saved.
That moment sparked some belief for the visitors, and they managed to reduce the deficit in the 82nd minute through a fine long-range effort from Antoine Mendy, which found the bottom corner.
However, the goal proved to be nothing more than consolation, as Strasbourg managed the remainder of the match effectively to secure the win and move within three points of sixth-placed AS Monaco.
Meanwhile, Nice remain five points clear of the relegation play-off spot as they continue their disappointing push to avoid dropping into the French second division for the first time in over 20 years.
