Maltese Basketball Icon Stephanie De Martino announces early retirement

The Malta Basketball Association (MBA) has paid tribute to Stephanie “Steffi” De Martino following her announcement of early retirement from competitive basketball due to a persistent injury. This marks the end of a remarkable 26-year career, including nearly two decades representing the Maltese national team.
A Legacy of International Success
De Martino was a key figure in Malta’s international success, securing multiple medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) and FIBA European Championships. Her achievements include gold at the 2017 GSSE and the 2010/2016 FIBA Small Countries Championships, along with various silver and bronze medals throughout her career.
Domestic Dominance
Locally, she was a standout player for clubs including Luxol and Starlites Naxxar, earning 5 Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and 11 Player of the Month honours. The MBA praised her as a leader and an inspiration to the local basketball community.
A New Chapter
Following her retirement, De Martino has transitioned to a business role, appointed Deputy Chairperson of KDM Investments Ltd in late 2025.
