Finland made a strong start to their series against New Zealand, securing a victory over the hosts to open the contest on a positive note.

The visitors produced a composed performance, taking control at key moments and demonstrating efficiency in both attack and defence. Their ability to capitalise on chances proved decisive as they established an early advantage and maintained it through the course of the match.

Finland sealed their victory late on, with five minutes remaining, when Topi Keskinen drove forward during an attack, was forced wide, and showed great awareness to square the ball to Jaakko Oksanen. Oksanen’s effort proved too powerful for goalkeeper Max Crocombe, securing the decisive goal.

It marks a second consecutive win with a clean sheet for Jacob Friis’ side, who began their campaign with a 4-0 triumph over Andorra to close out 2025.

Finland will next take on Cape Verde at Auckland’s Eden Park. Another victory, combined with dropped points from Chile against New Zealand, would see Finland clinch the four-team series.
