The European Waterpolo Women Challenger Cup concluded with a decisive all-Maltese clash to determine final rankings, as Sirens ASC powered past San Ġiljan with a comprehensive 16-4 victory.

The win ensures Sirens finish the tournament in 5th place, while San Ġiljan ends their European campaign in 6th.

Clinical Sirens Take Control

Sirens entered the pool with momentum, having won three matches in the competition. Their offensive prowess was on full display, led by a pair of five-goal hauls from Kaia Agius and Martha Perici Ferrante. The duo proved impossible for the San Ġiljan defense to contain, accounting for the bulk of the scoreline.

Further contributions from Chloe Amato and Kendra Navarro, who each netted twice, alongside goals from Samantha Ferreira and Zaira Bartolo, rounded out a complete team performance for the St. Paul’s Bay side.

San Ġiljan Fight to the End

Despite the scoreline, San Ġiljan continued to battle throughout the four sessions. Elena was the standout for the Saints, finding the net twice. Marie Rose Tully and Thea Abdilla also added their names to the scoresheet with a goal apiece, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit created by Sirens’ high-pressure attack.

Final Scorers List:

  • Sirens (16): Kaia Agius (5), Martha Perici Ferrante (5), Chloe Amato (2), Kendra Navarro (2), Samantha Ferreira (1), Zaira Bartolo (1).
  • San Ġiljan (4): Elena (2), Marie Rose Tully (1), Thea Abdilla (1).

The result marks a strong finish for the Maltese sides on the European stage, highlighting the continued development of women’s water polo in the islands.
