Canada coach Marsch confirms Davies will miss upcoming friendlies

Alphonso Davies will miss Canada’s upcoming World Cup warm-up matches against Iceland and Tunisia due to injury, head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed on Thursday.
Davies suffered a hamstring strain while playing for Bayern Munich in their 6-1 Champions League victory over Atalanta on Tuesday, forcing him to leave the field in visible discomfort.
The 25-year-old had only returned to action in December after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in March 2025.
Canada will face Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on April 1 as part of their preparations for the World Cup, which they are co-hosting with the United States and Mexico.
“It’ll probably be two to three weeks before he’s back again,” Marsch told TSN Sports. “He’s probably not going to be with us for March, which is okay. We’ll probably leave him in Munich to make sure he gets fully fit and back to 100%, and I’m confident he will do that.”
Marsch added: “It’s not easy when you come back from long-term injuries. We just need to take the appropriate steps to make sure we don’t have any more setbacks.”
