William Osula struck a dramatic 90th-minute winner as 10-man Newcastle United defeated Manchester United 2–1, handing Michael Carrick his first defeat as Red Devils boss. The victory also marked a fourth consecutive Premier League home win for the Magpies against United. ⚽🔥

Newcastle entered the match in poor league form, with just one win in their previous seven outings (D1, L5), but they were facing the division’s in-form side over that same stretch. Carrick’s United had collected six wins and a draw from their last seven matches, making them strong favourites heading into the clash.

After a lethargic display in their 3–2 defeat to Everton at the weekend, Newcastle began this contest with far greater urgency. The hosts nearly struck early when Kieran Trippier’s cross bounced off the woodwork, allowing Lewis Hall a chance on the rebound, but he fired over the bar.

The Magpies dominated the opening quarter-hour. Anthony Elanga dragged a shot narrowly wide, while Joelinton dispossessed compatriot Casemiro before picking out Harvey Barnes, whose curling effort slipped just past the post.

United struggled to find rhythm early on but gradually grew into the game before the break. Kobbie Mainoo forced Aaron Ramsdale into a sharp save with a powerful long-range effort, and the Newcastle goalkeeper soon denied Matheus Cunha. The rebound fell to Bryan Mbeumo, who blazed over from close range.

Newcastle were dealt a major setback in first-half stoppage time when Jacob Ramsey received a second yellow card for simulation. Despite going down to 10 men, the hosts were awarded a penalty moments later after Bruno Fernandes fouled Anthony Gordon inside the area. Gordon stepped up and confidently converted to give the Magpies the lead.

However, there was still time for another twist before the interval. United responded immediately as Casemiro rose to head home Fernandes’ free-kick, sending the sides into the break level.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Newcastle controlled possession early in the second half, though clear chances proved elusive. Gordon tested Senne Lammens, but the United goalkeeper gathered comfortably.

Carrick’s side struggled to take advantage of their extra man, prompting a double substitution on the hour. Yet it was Newcastle who almost regained the lead on 66 minutes when Sandro Tonali’s corner found Gordon sliding in at the back post, only for the forward to steer his effort wide.

United began to assert themselves in the final 20 minutes. Fernandes picked out Leny Yoro inside the box, but his header was brilliantly saved by Ramsdale. The goalkeeper then produced another crucial stop to deny Joshua Zirkzee, getting a strong hand to tip away the striker’s dipping effort.

Those saves proved decisive. In stoppage time, substitute William Osula produced a moment of brilliance, cutting inside from the right flank before curling a stunning strike into the far corner to send St James’ Park into raptures. 🎯

The late goal sealed a memorable win for Newcastle, ending United’s unbeaten start under Carrick and preventing the Red Devils from strengthening their position in the top four. Meanwhile, the Magpies celebrated their first Premier League home victory in nearly two months.
