Bayern Munich defender Hiroki Ito faces another spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Friday.

Sporting director Christoph Freund revealed the 26-year-old centre-back is expected to be out for “two to three weeks,” ruling him out of Saturday’s trip to Borussia Dortmund and putting his availability for Bayern’s Champions League clash with Atalanta in March in doubt.

Ito has struggled with injuries since joining Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2024. He played just six Bundesliga matches in his debut season after fracturing a foot bone and missed the first 10 games of the current campaign due to another foot injury.

The Japanese international has earned 26 caps for his country, scoring once.
