Arteta insists Arsenal’s recent dominance over Chelsea counts for nothing before latest showdown

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists past results against Chelsea will have no bearing on Sunday’s Premier League clash, as the leaders prepare for another high-stakes London derby.
Arsenal have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings, beating Chelsea twice in the League Cup semi-finals and remaining unbeaten in the fixture since 2021. Arteta’s side have won 10 of the last 16 encounters between the rivals.
However, the Gunners were held to a draw by 10-man Chelsea in November, and Liam Rosenior’s resurgent Blues arrive this weekend on a six-match unbeaten run in the league.
“We know the importance of the game and the team we are going to have in front of us,” Arteta said on Friday. “We just have to prepare in the best way to earn the right to win it, as I always say.
“What you have done two weeks or two years ago is irrelevant because every game and every context is different. The players might change, the mood of the team might be different. We are prepared.”
Arteta also highlighted Chelsea’s tactical flexibility under Rosenior, who remains unbeaten in the league since taking charge.
“They can change throughout the game, and they have a manager very comfortable doing that,” Arteta added. “So we are prepared for the possible scenarios we can face, and then we will try to be better than them.”
With Arsenal still competing on multiple fronts, Arteta was asked whether his team could become the first English club to win a quadruple of Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League titles in the same season.
“Has it been done? That is how difficult it is,” he replied. “So let’s go game by game and try to earn the right to be there in the last stage of every competition, and then we will see what happens.”
