Dayot Upamecano signs new Bayern Munich deal keeping him at club until 2030

Dayot Upamecano has signed a four-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, committing his future to the German champions until 2030, the club confirmed on Friday.
The 27-year-old centre-back joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has since made 180 appearances for the Bavarians, helping them secure three Bundesliga titles.
“I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together,” Upamecano said in a club statement.
“I give my all for my teammates in every training session. I want to keep a clean sheet in every game and I want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”
Upamecano endured a challenging start to life in Munich, with injuries and inconsistency drawing criticism during his early seasons. However, his performances improved significantly, and he established himself as a regular for the France national football team, starting in the 2022 World Cup final defeat to Argentina.
His form has risen further under head coach Vincent Kompany, a former elite centre-back who took charge in 2024.
Sporting director Christoph Freund praised the defender’s development, saying Upamecano had “developed into a truly world-class defender and leader here at Bayern”.
“The whole package he brings is hugely valuable for our squad. We’re happy he’s staying with us,” Freund added.
With his previous contract due to expire this summer, speculation over Upamecano’s future had intensified in recent months amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs.
Negotiations were protracted, with German outlet Bild reporting that the defender had missed a club-imposed deadline to decide on his future. In January, Bayern powerbroker Uli Hoeness criticised Upamecano’s agent in an interview with Kicker magazine, saying he was “appalled by this behaviour”.
Ultimately, Bayern softened their stance, agreeing to a substantial signing-on bonus and inserting a release clause valid from 2027 as part of the new deal.
This season, Bayern sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and have qualified directly for the Champions League round of 16, with Upamecano central to their domestic and European ambitions.
