Tottenham confirm winger Wilson Odobert suffered ACL tear in defeat to Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that French winger Wilson Odobert has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, dealing another significant blow to the club’s injury-hit campaign.
The 21-year-old was forced off during Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United. In a statement released on Thursday, Spurs said Odobert had sustained a tear to the ACL in his left knee and will undergo surgery. British media reports suggest the youngster could miss the remainder of the season.
“We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the club said.
The news compounds a difficult period for Tottenham, who parted ways with manager Thomas Frank on Wednesday following an eight-game run without a league victory. The north London side currently sit 16th in the table, just five points above the relegation zone.
Spurs have been hampered by a growing injury list throughout the season. Forward Richarlison remains sidelined, along with three defenders and several midfielders, including James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall.
Captain Cristian Romero recently voiced concerns over the squad’s lack of depth in an Instagram post earlier this month.
Tottenham will look to arrest their slide when they host league leaders Arsenal on February 22.
