Kercem Ajax surged back to the summit of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League 1st Division on Thursday night, delivering a statement 4–0 victory over third-placed Ghajnsielem FC at the Gozo Stadium.

Ajax Dominate Top-Four Clash

In a match expected to be a tight encounter between two title contenders, Kercem Ajax proved far too strong for the Black and Whites. Mateus Fernandes De Souza Lima broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, ensuring Kercem went into the interval with a narrow lead.

The second half saw Kercem move through the gears. Andre Gabriel Castro Martins doubled the advantage just after the hour mark (62’), before Nathaniel Mercieca effectively ended the contest in the 74th minute. Andrew Mizzi added gloss to the scoreline with a clinical finish in stoppage time (90+1’) to secure a comprehensive win that sees Kercem move one point clear of Xewkija Tigers.

In the evening’s other fixture, SK Victoria Wanderers and Qala Saints played out a hard-fought 1–1 draw. After a goalless first half, the game burst into life shortly after the restart. Ender Duvan Alvarez Vielma put the Wanderers ahead in the 51st minute, but the lead lasted only three minutes before Jordi Parnis equalised for the Saints.

The result does little to help either side’s specific ambitions; Qala remain fourth, missing the chance to close the gap on the top three, while the Wanderers pick up a point that keeps them comfortably in mid-table.
