Attard pull six points clear as Senglea climb off the Bottom

The BOV Amateur League I landscape shifted significantly following the latest round of fixtures, with Attard extending their lead at the summit and Senglea Athletic continuing their remarkable resurgence in a high-stakes relegation battle.
Attard Extend Lead While Rivals Slip
Attard moved six points clear at the top of the table following a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Mqabba at the Sirens Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Staline Degabriele broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second period, before Precious Uchechukwu Nwankwo doubled the advantage in the 75th minute. A late goal from Mqabba’s Luka Mijic proved to be only a consolation.
Attard’s position was further strengthened by a 2–0 defeat for second-placed Qormi at the hands of Victoria Hotspurs. Late strikes from Christian Saint Ebisindor (71’) and Rondinely (89’) secured the win for the Hotspurs, who now sit just two points behind Qormi in fourth.
Meanwhile, Lija Athletic moved into third place with a 3–1 comeback win over Zejtun Corinthians. Despite falling behind to a Kevin Tulimieri goal, Lija responded through Wagner, Lyvann Obissa, and a late sealer from Erjon Beu.
Relegation Dogfight: Senglea on the Rise
In a “top-notch” relegation clash, Senglea Athletic recorded their third consecutive win with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Qrendi.
The match was a rollercoaster from the start; James Oghenekwaro put Senglea ahead in the 2nd minute, only for Brandon Bray to equalise for Qrendi following a defensive error. Johan Alberto Castanho restored Senglea’s lead with a stunning drive, but Dion Ciantar leveled for Qrendi just before the break. However, Nigel Scerri secured the vital three points for the Yellow and Reds with another “screamer” at the start of the second half. This victory sees Senglea finally move off the bottom of the standings.
In another basement battle, Mellieha and Xghajra Tornados shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw. Ramos de Santana gave Mellieha a surprise lead, but Andrea Hammett equalised just a minute later. The result leaves Mellieha at the bottom of the table, though they remain within striking distance of the teams above.
