Dimarco on fire as Inter score five to extend top spot in Serie A

Inter Milan stretched their Serie A lead to eight points with a commanding 5-0 victory over Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium, extending their unbeaten league run to 12 matches.
The hosts came close to an early shock inside the opening minute when Ismaël Koné beat Yann Sommer with a close-range effort, only for Federico Dimarco to head the ball off the line. But it was Inter who struck first: in the 11th minute, Dimarco delivered a sublime corner, met by Yann Bisseck, who powered a header into the net for his second Serie A goal of the season.
Inter continued to dominate, with Bisseck almost doubling his tally shortly afterward, denied only by a vital Sassuolo block. Dimarco came close to scoring himself with a long-range free-kick that rattled the post, showcasing his influence on the game.
Moments later, Dimarco was once again at the heart of the action. His pinpoint cross from the left found Marcus Thuram inside the six-yard box, and the striker made no mistake in putting Inter 2-0 up. Sassuolo briefly thought they had a lifeline when Kristian Thorstvedt scored from close range, but VAR ruled the effort out for offside.
The second half began disastrously for the Neroverdi. Just five minutes after the restart, Lautaro Martínez capitalised on a defensive lapse, chested the ball down, and fired past Arijanet Murić to make it 3-0.
Dimarco continued to dazzle, completing a hat-trick of assists as another well-delivered corner found Manuel Akanji, who headed home Inter’s fourth. Sassuolo’s woes worsened when Nemanja Matić received a second yellow for dissent, leaving the hosts down to ten men.
Inter pressed for more, and although Thuram struck the post from close range, Luis Henrique wrapped up the scoring with a clinical finish inside the box, sealing a comprehensive 5-0 triumph.
The win marks Inter’s fifth consecutive victory in all competitions, as Cristian Chivu’s side aim to maintain their momentum ahead of next weekend’s clash with Juventus. Sassuolo, meanwhile, see their two-match winning streak come to an end and remain in 11th place.
