Gerrard compares ‘deadly’ Ekitike to former Liverpool star Torres
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has likened Hugo Ekitike to his former teammate Fernando Torres following the striker’s brace in Saturday’s win over Newcastle United.
Gerrard praised Ekitike’s second goal, saying it reminded him of Torres at his peak.
“It’s Torres-like,” Gerrard said. “He just gets it out of his feet and that toe poke—it’s classic. Every time I watch him, he reminds me of Torres. He scores similar types of goals: if you give him space in the channel, he’ll run at you, he’s too quick, you can’t catch him, and he’s deadly.”
Ekitike responded humbly to the comparison, saying: “Back in the day, I couldn’t really watch the Premier League—my mum didn’t pay for it! I’ve seen some clips on YouTube, but I would never put myself in that bracket. He was an incredible player. If I reach his level, that would be amazing. I just have to keep working.”
