Aston Villa will be without French international midfielder Boubacar Kamara for the remainder of the season after he underwent surgery on his left knee in Lyon on Thursday, medical sources have confirmed.

The 26-year-old sustained the injury during Villa’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur on January 10.

Kamara will carry out his rehabilitation with Aston Villa, but the severity of the injury means he is highly unlikely to add to his five international caps or secure a place in France’s squad for the World Cup later this year.

Since joining Villa from Marseille in 2022, Kamara has made 18 Premier League appearances this season, scoring once, as Unai Emery’s side sit third in the table, seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
