Mbappé leads Real Madrid rampage in six-goal demolition of Monaco

Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé led a ruthless Real Madrid display as the Spanish champions swept aside AS Monaco 6–1 at the Santiago Bernabéu in the UEFA Champions League. The emphatic win extended Los Blancos’ formidable home record against French opposition, leaving them unbeaten in 18 of their last 19 such European fixtures.
After a quiet opening, the match burst into life in the fifth minute. Mbappé, facing his former club, needed just his second touch of the game to rifle a low effort from the edge of the box into the corner for his 10th goal of the competition.
Monaco struggled to gain a foothold, although Ansu Fati—on loan from Barcelona—spurned a golden chance to equalise from close range midway through the first half. That miss proved costly. In the 25th minute, a failed attempt by Folarin Balogun to keep the ball in play sparked a swift Madrid counterattack, which ended with Vinícius delivering a perfectly weighted outside-of-the-boot cross for Mbappé to double the lead.
The visitors threatened a response before the interval. Jordan Teze rattled the crossbar with a curling strike, while Maghnes Akliouche and Balogun both tested Thibaut Courtois, but Madrid remained firmly in control.
Any lingering doubt disappeared shortly after the restart. Six minutes into the second half, Franco Mastantuono finished first time across goal following another Vinícius assist, effectively ending the contest.
The goals kept coming. Thilo Kehrer turned Vinícius’ low cross into his own net before the hour mark, and Madrid continued to pour forward, with Fede Valverde, Arda Güler and Jude Bellingham all going close. The highlight of the night followed soon after, as Vinícius capped his performance with a sensational strike into the top corner.
Monaco briefly denied Courtois a clean sheet when a defensive lapse from Dani Ceballos allowed Teze to score a consolation, but Madrid quickly restored order. Bellingham completed the rout by rounding Philipp Köhn and finishing into an empty net to make it six.
The result lifts Real Madrid, at least temporarily, into second place in the league standings, while Monaco drop to 21st and face a serious battle to avoid elimination from the competition.
