Struggling Wolves extend unbeaten run to five with draw against Newcastle

Wolverhampton Wanderers extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games after holding Newcastle United to a goalless draw at Molineux in the Premier League.
The Magpies began the match brightly and came close to taking the lead in the 16th minute, when Nick Woltemade’s header from a well-delivered free-kick flashed narrowly over the bar.
Wolves registered their first shot on target just before the half-hour mark, as Matheus Nunes reacted quickly to shoot on the turn, though his effort was straight at Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Despite enduring significant pressure late in the first half, Wolves nearly took the lead themselves just before the break, with Hugo Bueno’s 12-yard effort narrowly missing the target. At the interval, Newcastle had failed to register a single shot on target, a statistic that will have encouraged Wolves head coach Rob Edwards, given the competitive and organised display of his side.
Rain continued to fall over the West Midlands after the break, and the second half struggled to gain momentum, with neither side able to assert control.
Eddie Howe responded by introducing Lewis Miley, Anthony Elanga, and Yoane Wissa in an effort to break down Wolves’ defence with around 25 minutes remaining. Newcastle won a free-kick in a dangerous area with just over 10 minutes left, but Kieran Trippier’s delivery drifted harmlessly into the side-netting.
The closing stages saw the visitors throw everything at Wolves in search of a late winner, but goalkeeper José Sá made two crucial saves to deny Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, preserving the clean sheet for the hosts.
The point lifts Newcastle above arch-rivals Sunderland into eighth in the Premier League, though their record of just two away wins in 11 league matches continues to hinder their push for a top-four finish.
For Wolves, the result extends their unbeaten streak but does little to ease their relegation concerns. They remain bottom of the table, 14 points adrift of safety, with their struggles on the road continuing to define their campaign.
