Bayern boss Kompany thrilled by Musiala’s return from broken leg

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Jamal Musiala could feature in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at RB Leipzig after nearly seven months out with a broken leg and ankle.
The 22-year-old Germany international, a key figure in the national team’s 2026 World Cup plans, suffered a fibula fracture and a dislocated ankle following a collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the Club World Cup in early July.
Before the injury, Musiala had been enjoying a stellar season, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions as Bayern captured the Bundesliga title.
“If all goes well today, the plan is that he will be there,” Kompany told reporters on Friday.
Bayern Thriving Despite Absence
Even without Musiala, Bayern have been unstoppable this season. Their 3-1 win over Köln on Wednesday set a new benchmark for the first half of a Bundesliga season. The reigning champions sit on 47 points after 17 matches with a goal difference of +53, surpassing Pep Guardiola’s 2013/14 Bayern side, which had a +35 goal difference at the same stage. Bayern have also scored a record 66 goals so far this season.
“Obviously, Jamal has a lot of positive energy coming out of this dark tunnel,” Kompany said. “Even the small things feel great. I tell my players to never forget this feeling of coming back. Jamal has that now.”
No Pressure on Returning Stars
Kompany emphasized that Musiala, along with fellow returning player Alphonso Davies, would be eased back into action without pressure to instantly change games.
“I don’t expect them to decide games for us immediately,” he said. “I want a good integration with a solid performance, and at some point for them to reach 100%. Maybe not the level they were at before, but to take the next step.”
Bayern will look to continue their strong form when they host Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League on Wednesday.
