The Malta women’s national youth football teams have discovered their qualification pathways for the upcoming 2026/27 UEFA Under-17 and Under-19 European Championship campaigns. The official first-round draws were conducted at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, by David Gough (UEFA Head of Women’s Football Competitions) and David Balmer (UEFA Women’s National Team Competitions Manager).

Both Maltese selections have been placed into Group B6 of League B in their respective tournaments, face tough opposition, and will fight for promotion to League A.

UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship: Road to the Finals

The first draw of the day mapped out Round 1 for the 2026/27 UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship. A total of 50 nations are participating in the tournament, divided structurally between League A (28 teams) and League B (22 teams).

Teams in League B are divided into groups to play in single-venue, mini-tournament formats. To earn promotion to League A for the second round of qualification, teams must either win their group or finish as the single best runner-up across the entire league.

Malta, who entered the draw from Pot 2 of League B, was placed into a three-team Group B6. They will face:

  • Serbia
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina

UEFA will announce the host countries for the mini-tournaments at a later date. All opening-round group matches must be completed by December 5th.

UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship: Group B6 Lineup Confirmed

Following the U17 selection, UEFA officials conducted the draw for the first round of the 2026/27 UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship. This tournament features 52 participating countries, with 28 sides placed in League A and 24 fighting through League B.

Mirroring the U17 structure, only the six group winners and the best overall runner-up from League B will secure promotion to League A for Round 2.

Malta started the draw in Pot 3 of League B and was placed into a highly competitive four-team Group B6. The Maltese squad will square off against:

  • Romania
  • Czechia
  • Kazakhstan

Tournament Timelines

The U19 qualification matches are scheduled to take place during the official FIFA Women’s International Match Calendar windows. Unless all teams in Group B6 unanimously agree on alternative dates, the fixtures will be played during one of two designated windows:

  • October 5th to 13th, 2026
  • November 24th to December 5th, 2026

The Malta Football Association (MFA) will release further updates regarding match venues, exact kickoff times, and squad preparations once they are finalized by UEFA and the respective group hosts.
