The Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed that Wesley has been released from Brazil’s World Cup squad after suffering an injury.

The right-back picked up the issue during the match against Egypt and was subsequently assessed by the national team’s medical staff, with further tests carried out on Sunday.

Wesley has been diagnosed with an injury to the adductor muscle in his left thigh, ruling him out of participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He will be replaced in the squad by Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is expected to join the team in the United States on Monday.

The 26-year-old has established himself in Italy since joining Atalanta in 2022. This season, he registered three goals and three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions and has also been linked with a potential move to Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window.

Drawn in Group C, Brazil will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on Saturday, June 13 against Morocco.

The Seleção will also face Haiti and Scotland in their remaining group-stage fixtures.
