Larin earns Canada historic First World Cup Point in Draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Co-hosts Canada fought back to secure a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening Group B match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with substitute Cyle Larin scoring a late equaliser to earn Les Rouges their first-ever point at a World Cup finals.
Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Scorers:
Canada: Cyle Larin 78′
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Jovo Lukic 21′
Playing in front of a passionate home crowd at Toronto Stadium, Canada made an energetic start but found themselves behind midway through the first half. Bosnia and Herzegovina capitalised on their strength from set pieces when Sead Kolašinac flicked on a corner and Jovo Lukic headed home in the 21st minute.
The visitors had threatened earlier through Amar Memić, while Canada’s defence struggled to deal with Bosnia’s aerial presence.
Despite conceding, Canada responded positively and created several opportunities before the break. Jonathan David saw a low effort comfortably saved by Nikola Vasilj after a fortunate ricochet, while Tani Oluwaseyi wasted an excellent chance by firing over the crossbar despite having time and space inside the penalty area.
Canada emerged from the interval with greater intensity. Oluwaseyi produced a moment of skill with a clever Cruyff turn before his header was blocked by Nikola Katić. Moments later, captain Stephen Eustáquio set up Richie Laryea, whose goal-bound effort was brilliantly cleared off the line by Kolašinac.
Bosnia also threatened on the counterattack, forcing Maxime Crépeau into an important save at the feet of Ermedin Demirović.
Canada’s persistence was eventually rewarded after coach Jesse Marsch introduced fresh legs from the bench. Cyle Larin, who had only been on the field for two minutes, received an assist from Promise David before turning sharply and firing home the equaliser in the 78th minute.
The striker almost completed a memorable comeback deep into stoppage time, but his effort was denied by Tarik Muharemović as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.
The result sees Canada collect their first point at a FIFA World Cup finals, ending a six-match losing streak in the competition and making a positive start to their home tournament.
