Christian Eriksen has issued his first public statement after collapsing during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday night, later revealing he was hospitalised in Odense.

I would like to say that I am well and that I am at home with my family,” he said. “As you can imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a big impact on both my family and me, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021. I am fine, and my recovery has already begun.”

He also expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the incident, including the medical staff and his teammates on the pitch, as well as the doctors who have treated him over the years.

“Beyond being thankful for the support and assistance from the players and medical team on the field, I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years,” he added. “Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do — protect me when I needed it.”

Christian Eriksen has said his immediate focus is on recovery and spending time with his family after a difficult period in his career.

“Right now my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on holiday, and playing football with my children,” he said.

The midfielder has endured a challenging season, which saw his club suffer relegation from the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, while Denmark also failed to secure qualification for the World Cup.

It marks a disappointing campaign for the experienced playmaker, who is now looking to step away from the pressures of competitive football and prioritise rest and recovery ahead of the next stage of his career.
