Malta Women prepare for final World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Türkiye

Head Coach Manuela Tesse has named a 23-player squad for Malta Women’s final fixtures in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup European Qualifying campaign.
Malta will travel to Switzerland for an away fixture on Friday, 5 June, before returning home to face Türkiye at the Centenary Stadium on Monday, 9 June. The match against Switzerland will be played at the AIL Arena in Lugano and kicks off at 19:30 local time, while the encounter against Türkiye is scheduled to start at 19:00.
Tesse has retained the core group of players who have featured throughout the qualifying campaign, with several overseas-based players included following strong performances for their respective clubs this season.
The Malta coach will, however, be without a number of key players due to injury. Stephania Farrugia, Rebecca Bajada, Sara Saliba and Leah Ayres remain unavailable as they continue their recovery from long-term injuries, while MFA Women’s Footballer of the Year Yulya Carella has been ruled out after sustaining a recent injury.
Captain Emma Lipman has been included in the squad but will miss Friday’s match against Switzerland due to suspension.
The upcoming fixtures will bring Malta’s qualifying campaign to a close, with the national team aiming to finish strongly against two challenging opponents in Group B2.
Switzerland, one of Europe’s leading women’s national teams, will provide a demanding test away from home, while Malta will be eager to capitalise on home support when they welcome Türkiye to the Centenary Stadium four days later.
