The seventh edition of the Malta Beach Soccer Championship will get underway next Monday and, once again, will be held at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa. Throughout the month, competitions for both men and women will take place.

Seven teams will participate in the men’s competition: Spartans Selection, Hamrun, Sliema, La Playa De Arena, Phoenix FC, W/A Agency and Costa Viola. Meanwhile, five teams will take part in the women’s championship: Skill and Passion, Birkirkara FC, Sliema, Parr Mela Rockets and Ballun FC.

The programme for the opening day, Monday 1 June, includes matches between Hamrun SC and Costa Viola at 6.00pm, Sliema against Spartans at 7.15pm, and W/A Agency versus Phoenix at 8.30pm. The following day, Tuesday 2 June, the women’s programme will feature Birkirkara against Skill and Passion at 6.00pm and Parr Mela Rockets versus Ballun FC at 7.15pm.

Men’s matches will be played every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the women’s fixtures will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Towards the end of the championship, the Final 4 stage will determine the two finalists who will battle for the national title.

Speaking about the competition, Malta Beach Soccer Association president Mauro Camilleri Darmanin said he was very pleased with the number of teams that applied to participate in this year’s championship. He noted that this reflects the growing popularity of beach soccer in Malta.

Camilleri Darmanin added that he is expecting a championship of a high standard, featuring competitive matches and entertaining action for the public attending at Pretty Bay throughout the month of June.
