MPL AGM 2026: Joseph Muscat Reconfirmed as Chairman as Malta Premier League Doubles Financial Surplus

Joseph Muscat has been unanimously reconfirmed as Chairman of the Malta Premier League (MPL) after the organisation reported a significant increase in its financial performance, doubling its surplus to €475,000 during the 2025/26 season.
During the MPL Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday afternoon, Dr Muscat received a unanimous vote of confidence in a secret ballot, securing all 12 votes cast and none against, thereby earning a second term as Chairman.
The AGM also saw the election of Victor Cassar (Hamrun Spartans FC) and Johann Said (Floriana FC) to the Malta Football Association Executive Board, filling the vacancies left by Keith Perry and Michael Valenzia.
Members were informed that, in just two years of operation, the MPL has experienced remarkable growth, with revenues increasing from €60,000 to just under €1 million.
The Malta Premier League expressed its sincere appreciation to its commercial partners for their continued trust, commitment, and support, which have played a key role in the organisation’s ongoing development and success.
The AGM also approved the calendar for the 2026/27 season. The new campaign will commence on Friday, 14 August 2026, while the draw and match sequence for the first eleven matchweeks of the Opening Round – League Phase will take place on Monday, 20 July 2026.
